Civic Education to build a sustainable society. Towards a new paideia


Abstract

The crisis caused by the pandemic has made us understand the fragility of our educational system and how fundamental it is to start from a new pedagogical sensitivity that is able to enhance the ethics of responsibility. The introduction of the transversal teaching of civic education in the Italian school, starting from the school year 2020/2021, has contributed to the enhancement of a pedagogy of responsibility which, by taking the shape of a new paideia, can be critical and emancipatory. The essay also presents the design of the civic education curriculum tested in the context of training for newly hired teachers and with the transition of roles, a valid tool for giving substance to the ethics of responsibility and sustainability.
