Educational Goal Setting and Assessment: an inclusive approach

Abstract:

The article describes the process through which elementary school teachers in training on formative assessment have discussed goal setting to facilitate students' self-regulation and continuous monitoring of their progress. Indeed, the teaching process requires the setting of clear and observable goals to guide student learning and teachers' teaching practice. These goals must be specific, measurable and integrated across school levels, from the school curriculum to individual classrooms. Assessment of goals is done through different instruments and must consider the individual needs of students. The collegial and cooperative approach, involving teachers, students and families, is fundamental to the ongoing design and revision of the curriculum with an inclusive and transformative value.
