“Pòlemos is the father of all”. Process and play the conflict through the theatre-education

Abstract

Since its debut in Western culture, theatre has brought conflict to the stage: with oneself, the other and the context. The theatre configures itself as a place that keeps away the typical background noises of the network. It represents an instrument of authenticity, made up of acts and relationships, which are conveyed by a corporeality that involves students and teachers in the daily school scene of conflict mediation. Referring to theatre-education experiences conducted in the last ten years, we highlight some pedagogical strategies that are functional to the improvement of relationships in the class group and to the personal development of students and teachers. The theatre offers both the opportunity to face discomfort through paralinguistic strategies and the word, which in the theatre is never short message, but is articulated in a speech, in a textus. The theatre laboratory therefore provides students and teachers with tools to learn about and manage their emotional states.
