Possible educators. The future of a profession between utopia and dystopia

Abstract:

The hallmark of contemporaneity, according to many authors, can be considered acceleration and its deconstructing implications. “Consuming life” appear intent on floating between performance-oriented demands, strictly multitasking, and constantly grappling with the inevitable delays that accumulate day after day. Such critical issues have also affected the educational professions. In line with this trend, we are increasingly witnessing the phenomenon of Great Resignation. To cope with this crisis, we believe it is necessary to support the prospective ability to “reimaging the future”, to desire change and act in that direction: in short, to support the “capacity to aspire”. From this perspective, we experimented with the Future Lab methodology with a group of 25 educators aiming to combine the critical analysis dimension and the propositional and utopian one. The action-research is part of the Monviso Future Lab project, implemented in the province of Cuneo. We will present the main results of the laboratories, highlighting the heuristic value of each phase: dystopia, utopia, and transition.
