Prevent discrimination and gender violence through education. Analysis and proposal from the European project FREASCO - Free from sexism and sexual harassment at school

Abstract:

This article analyses the results of a comparative survey carried out within the European project FREASCO - Free from sexism and sex harassment at school - on the awareness that male and female students at schools and universities have on gender stereotypes, sexism and the forms of discrimination that afflict educational and academic contexts. The objective is to bring to light those subtle forms of violence and gender discrimination that occur in those environments, known as “protected”, but which are often the site of discriminatory and sexist episodes. Given the lack of studies on these issues, especially in Italy, the importance of planning systematic and specific actions emerges to promote a school and academic environment free from gender stereotypes and prejudices, capable of promoting an inclusive culture that respects diversity.
