Abstract:
The involvement and active participation of teachers is an essential component for the learning process to be meaningful and successful for students. This paper aims to investigate the limits and benefits of a Service Learning (SL) activity organized in 13 schools in Apulia and Basilicata during the school year 2023-24. The initiative trained 44 teachers in listening and teaching some famous arias from the Italian opera repertoire. The aim was to enable them to prepare their students for a real performance. They therefore measured and tested themselves as chorus directors, set and costume designers; involving students, parents and families in the preparation of a ‘premiere’ at the theatre. For the evaluation of the activity, we collected feedback from teachers in order to evaluate, improve and increase the organization of SL initiatives, a meaningful, engaging and value-bearing pedagogical approach for individuals.
