Teachers in Finland and Italy, research findings

Abstract

What is the academic path of aspiring teachers? What is the perception of this role in the community? Theachers’ training is today more than ever a current topic. Different competences are requested from teacher, including planning and organizational skills in the face of the changing interests and needs of students, problem solving skills and resilience in the face of the challenges that everyday life and global complexity pose in educational practice (OECD, 2020; 2019; 2004). The aim of the essay is to explore the multifaceted identity of the teaching profession: through a meta-analysis and a presentation of international data, the articulated figure of the teacher will be described in Finland and Italy, two important European educational realities (Argentin & Giancola, 2013; Blomberg, 2008). Psycho-pedagogical competences and disciplinary and didactic knowledge are, in fact, just some of the components that outline the profile of this important professional figure (Baldacci et ali, 2020).
