Technology facilitated gender based violence: when feminicide is social

Abstract:

In 2023, the term feminicide was elected “word of the year”, encouraging, even more, reflection on a complex phenomenon (Dawson, Angus & Zecha, 2024; Radford & Russell, 1992; Ulivieri, 2013; 2016). A phenomenon that frequently represents the last act of stories of violence perpetrated and repeated against the female gender and that, often, they see the partner or ex-partner also using the pervasiveness of the network (Lopez, 2023; Pasta, 2021) to gather consensus in condemning/denigrating their partner (or ex). In our country, the Vox Diritti Observatory, through La Nuova Mappa dell’Intolleranza 7 (2023), reports that, once again, women are in first place among the most affected categories and that hate speech and phenomena such as revenge porn accentuate violent demonstrations and also lead to harmful consequences. In this scenario, the intent of the contribution is to analyze the social dimension of the feminicide, starting from real stories (Zizioli, 2023), to identify possible educational routes to propose to the boys and girls of our time.
