Abstract:
Today, school books present many multimedia elements. Enhancing the effectiveness of an inclusive educational curriculum implies assessing the characteristics of materials used in the classroom. In fact, both Italian school laws and scientific literature mention specific textual properties to meet students' learning needs. Moreover, according to the Universal Design for Learning and the Differentiated Instruction approaches, it is relevant to give all students the opportunity to show what they have learned by choosing how to access the material. For this reason, during an Action Research, two interactive checklists have been elaborated to guide the school community to carefully consider the potential of school books and then adequate them to group-class needs. Here, we describe the research conducted, present the analysis tools and invite teachers to use them in order to manage the class from an inclusive perspective.
