The assessment of personal, social and learning to learn key-competence according to the European Lifecomp Framework: the Lifecomp Questionnaire pilot study

Abstract:

This study aims to describe the pilot study of three questionnaire aimed at assessing the fifth key competence: Personal, Social and Learning to Learn. The questionnaires refer to the three areas of the European Lifecomp Framework; each instrument therefore estimates the perceived mastery of 3 sub-competencies (Self-regulation, Flexibility, and Well-being/Self-care; Empathy, Communication, and Collaboration; Open-mindedness, Critical Thinking, and Learning Management). These sub-competencies were operationalized according to a reiterable model consisting of Awareness, Knowledge, and Action. Responses to each instrument are provided via a 5-point Likert-type scale. The pilot study was conducted on a convenience sample of 772 students belonging to the last years of secondary school and university. The outcomes of the exploratory factor analysis confirmed a three-dimensional structure for each questionnaire corresponding to those assumed by the framework. The reliability of the nine scales is good with values (Cronbach's alpha) ranging from a low of .80 to a high of .87.
