This article intends to analyze the reforms
in recent years in regards to the Italian education system, taking into account
the role of the head teacher and newly assigned responsibilities in merit of
questions of particular relevancy to the life of the scholastic institution. In
the framework of the analysis, particular significance is assigned to the
cultural background of the head teacher and his or her educational path
(initial and in-service), focused on exercising an effective educational
leadership, as a necessary condition of giving concrete and coherent
actualization to the innovative logic of the reforms.
