The professional profile of the nursery educator and his training: state of the art, scenarios and challenges

Abstract:

First, the Author develops an excursus about the legislative evolution regarding nursery schools and children's services in Italy, particularly the training and skills profile of the professionals who operate there ("Iori law”). Then, he develops a reflection about the scenarios that take shape in the immediate future and the challenges we should face. This reflection, linked to some principles that inspire the Gramscian approach (as well as to Lorenzo Milani's experience and his theoretical development in educational policy, substantially consistent with the first), focuses above all on questions concerning the educational alliance between public educational institutions and families. He remarks that a decisive point is represented by a virtuous relationship between responsible parenting and the social recognition of the professional status and institutional role educators play. Finally, it highlights how this aspect involves the university’s decisive role, which carries out the task of training these figures.
