The use of digital dilemmas to promote digital citizenship education

Abstract:

This study is based on the current and renewed academic interest, as well as the growing body of research, regarding the use of moral dilemmas in the context of digital citizenship education. Specifically, it will discuss an activity conducted with 194 second-year university students enrolled in the Master's Degree in Primary Education Sciences in Palermo, during which digital moral dilemmas were created and presented. This was done to both identify the morally significant and virtuous aspects of digital life and to prepare students to face ethical situations online. The use of moral dilemmas facilitated the development of reflective moral reasoning, enabling the trainee students to cultivate a sense of ethical self-empowerment through autonomous decision-making
