The work pedagogist. Guidelines for the recognition of a new professional role

Abstract:

Law No. 55/2024, concerning the regulation of pedagogical and educational professions and the establishment of professional registers, represents the culmination of a historical process aimed at recognizing and legitimizing the profession of the pedagogist. This milestone paves the way for the next natural step in the debate: identifying possible specialization pathways by defining areas of research, competence, and specific interventions to legitimize new specialized pedagogists in certain fields further. This contribution proposes the work pedagogist's role as a specialist in the educational phases associated with various work situations. From a pedagogical perspective, the work pedagogist would intervene in career orientation, skills analysis, evaluation, and certification; job preparation, active job searching, and labour market entry; lifelong learning, transitions, and career development. We will identify some initial contextual elements.
